Uzbekistan’s Medicine Price Optimization Policy Recognized with an International Award

Reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at expanding access to high-quality, safe, and affordable medicines have been recognized by the international pharmaceutical community.

The project of the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry, “Making Medicines Affordable in Uzbekistan: Reference Pricing, Digital Monitoring and Public Access,” aimed at optimizing medicine prices, establishing reference prices, digitalizing price monitoring, and providing the public with transparent information, was named the winner in the “Excellence With Purpose” category of the “CPHI Pharma Awards 2026” international awards.

Announced on October 6 this year in Milan, this result represents international recognition of the systemic reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan in the interests of the population.

As part of the project, mechanisms for establishing reference prices for medicines, regularly analyzing and digitally monitoring prices, as well as providing the public with open and accessible information on medicine prices, are being improved.

The main objective of the reference pricing system is to prevent unjustified increases in medicine prices, ensure fair price formation in the market, and create opportunities for people to purchase medicines at more affordable prices.

The “CPHI Pharma Awards” recognize initiatives in the pharmaceutical sector that demonstrate innovation, effectiveness, collaboration, and social impact. The “Excellence With Purpose” category recognizes projects focused on the interests of patients and society and delivering positive social impact.

The recognition of Uzbekistan’s project as the winner in this category demonstrates that the country’s efforts to optimize medicine prices, ensure transparency, and introduce digital control mechanisms have attracted the attention of the international professional community.

This is an important international recognition for Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical system and will provide additional momentum for the consistent continuation of reforms focused on the interests of the population.
